WASHINGTON- Is there a gate on Mars? That’s the question posed by conspirators online after NASA released a new photo taken by NASA’s Curiosity rover.
Taken by explorer Sol 3466’s Mast Camera (Mastcam) (May 7), the grainy image appears to show a well-cut hole in a rock face. There has been no official NASA explanation for the sighting, but that hasn’t stopped online debate about what it shows.
One social media user described the scene as “a formation on Mars that appears to be a portal and a nearby wall that looks artificial”, while another concluded “I swear to God there are at least 5 Martians camouflaged in it”.
However, others were more practical, with one Reddit user stating, “obviously it’s not a small door, it’s just a flat piece of broken rock.”
The Mars discovery comes at a time when the US Congress is due to hold a public hearing on UFOs next Tuesday for the first time in more than 50 years. The House Intelligence Committee’s Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence and Counterproliferation Subcommittee will address the subject.
“The American people expect and deserve their leaders in government and intelligence to seriously assess and respond to any potential national security risks — especially those that we do not fully understand,” said the Indiana Democratic Rep. André Carson, chair of the subcommittee, in a press release. this week.
Federal officials released a report on documented cases of so-called “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena” (UAP) in the summer of 2021. In that report, the Director of National Intelligence reviewed 144 UFO cases, but did not was able to explain only one.
On Wednesday, a kind of UFO “watchdog,” “UFO of interest,” seemed to have debunked any discussion of extraterrestrial life. One of their tweets instead reveals that the “gate” is a “little niche” in a much larger rock face.
